The Crippling of America book...

The Crippling of America: Irony of public education and strategies for healing an infectious system book was produced as a public awareness project of the Center for Holistic Health. The organization’s priority objective is to assist with healing public schools from the inside-out; as a method for preventing childhood trauma within school and home environments throughout the United States. Crippling of America was written as a conversation with Americans (as stakeholders) to shed light on the hidden facets of public education, landmines, and undercurrents having detrimental impacts in the life of school-age-children (and adverse effects among the adult population) in America.

FACTS ABOUT...

America's K-12 public schools, childhood trauma, ill-society:

  • Emotional burnout and drop-out among public school educators is endemic in America;

  • Many public school educators show up ready for battle (with peers, children & parents).

  • Mental abuse, physical altercations, and other forms of violence has become the norm within many public schools (among educator-to-student and peer-to-peer).

  • Over 1.2 million youth are dropping out of America’s public schools each year; others are being pushed-out, opt-out, and some sadly, are being shot-out.  

  • Nearly 8 million children (between age 1 and 17) are taking psych-medication for anxiety and other mental health problems (as methods for coping).

  • An estimated 40 million American adults are suffering from anxiety disorders.

  • Over 2.5 million children are homeless in America; some living on streets, under bridges, and in tents with their parent(s); by all accounts, many of the adult parents are public school victims.

  • Inadequate public education has caused an increase in ill-health, generational poverty (and a multitude of societal issues).

  • The adverse effects of childhood trauma is having a detrimental effect in the life of children/youth, adults, and families as well as the damaging effect on America’s economy and nation.

MY LIFE IS A STORY OF SURVIVAL

“My life is a story of survival” is the anthem for millions of children/youth (and adults) residing in urban cities, suburban towns, and rural areas the United States. The research for writing Crippling of America revealed:

Many public schools across the USA are creating more trauma for school-age-children than experienced within community and homes. Many children/youth (and adults) are suffering from emotional trauma. A significant number of educators (teachers, administrators, staff) show up at their public school ready for battle against the children they are hired to teach as well as ready to combat peers and parents. The magnitude of bullying and violence in public schools extends beyond the human imagination (the dysfunctional behavior among adults, children, and youth) is widely accepted as the norm. Many children/youth are afraid to attend their public school because of violence, constant bullying (from teachers and peers); combined with negative attitude exhibited by many educators, unsafe, unfriendly, and unhealthy conditions. Many children attending America’s public schools are treated as if they are less than human, and those school-age-children are expected to perform as functional people. Many children are attending public schools in America that are classified as dangerous, notoriously dangerous, and/or low-performing (as an acceptable norm).

HAVE YOU LOOKED INTO THE EYES OF CHILDREN LATELY. . .

DO YOU SEE THEIR PAIN?

Have you looked in the eyes of school-age children/youth lately?

  • Have you noticed many children with unhappy faces and some with dark circles around the eyes from sleep deprivation; perhaps, from crying during night from fear within home and community, and fear of attending school the next day? Have you observed some children crying at school because of bullying and violence? Have you looked beneath the surface of America’s public schools to see the emotional trauma, fear, pain, and rejection of children by some educators (people who are supposed to be kind, caring, nurturing, and compassionate; but experiencing pain themselves)?

America as a nation is currently experiencing significant levels of generational poverty as well as the adverse effects of trauma among children (associated with dysfunctional school-systems and inadequate public education); as reflected through the conditions faced by many youth, adults, and society.
 
* Over 1.2 million youth are dropping of public schools each year (and sadly, some children are shot-out).

* Nearly 8 million children (age 1 to 17) are prescribed and taking psychiatric-medications for anxiety.

* Over 40 million American adults are suffering from anxiety and other disorders (of reported cases).

* Over 2.5 million children are homeless; some living on streets, under bridges, and in tents with parent(s). 

Have you noticed …?

  • Greater numbers of children (with parents) walking the streets looking for food, a hand-out, and shelter—many are parents who dropped (or were pushed) out of public school, and landed in poverty (with children who should be in school receiving a quality education, where available).

The real-life, chilling, and shocking situations experienced by many children/youth (and public school teachers) proclaiming the anthem “my life is a story of survival” are spotlighted in the Crippling of America book as well as highlights on the ripple effects in society; and reasons why business leaders and other stakeholders (tax-paying citizens) should be concerned.

ABOUT THE CRIPPLING OF AMERICA BOOK

  • The “Crippling of America: Irony of public education and strategies for healing an infectious system” book was developed by co-authors La Verne Dixon, PhD (founder of the Center for Holistic Health) and Adam H. White III (chairman of the CFHH national advisory board), as a public awareness project (on behalf of the nonprofit organization); for shedding light on the causes-effects of America’s ill-society, and consequences resulting from inadequate public education.

 

  • The co-authors revealed hidden facets of the K-12 public education system while highlighting: issues of unintentional casualties, the contagious cycle of negativity, trauma experienced by school-agechildren, and the effects of inadequate public education related to individual health, education attainment, and life quality. The authors also shed light on ripple effects within America’s society and nation.
